Hello Younger Members,

 

We had a nice social event Wednesday evening at the Varsity Club.  ASCE
President-Elect Andrew Herrmann was on hand to chat with Younger Members
and Students.  He also gave a good presentation at the Section Luncheon
on Thursday.  Congratulations to past YM president Bob Heady for
receiving the 2011 Outstanding Section Member award!

 

Just a reminder, next Tuesday the 17th, we will be having a
"Communication" presentation after work.  Food will be provided.  See
below for details.  Please RSVP to me by Monday.

 

May 14:  OWEA (Ohio Water Environment Association) YP Summit -
Educational Presentation and Rain Garden Installation Demo with Franklin
Soil and Water Conservation District will be held in Clinton Township at
990 Chambers Rd. (More info: Event Information
<http://www.viethconsulting.com/Calendar/moreinfo.php?eventid=14676> ).
With such a rainy spring, this will be quite an appropriate and
beneficial community event.  It is also a good opportunity to meet other
engineers and support OWEA with their event.

May 17:  ASCE YM will be having an after-work presentation on
"Communication" given by Mark Abate, PE.  Mark is the field supervisor
at BBCM Engineering and has 12 years of engineering experience.  Mark
has an MBA and provides coaching to local students and engineers.  The
presentation will be held at the BBCM office (6190 Enterprise Court,
Dublin OH 43016).  Park in the rear lot (entrance from the cul-de-sac
located at 1 o'clock).  The office training room can be accessed from
the rear door nearest the parking lot.  Sandwiches will be served at
5:30 and the presentation will be from 6:00 to about 7:15 PM.  Please
RSVP to AJ Smith.

May 19:  "Water For People" is holding a Wine-Tasting Fundraiser on
Thursday, May 19th from 6pm to 10pm. See attached flyer for additional
information.

June 4:  Stream bank volunteer cleanup at Griggs Reservoir (Arlington)
as part of Central Ohio River Pride (www.riverpride.org
<http://www.riverpride.org/> ).  Cleanup is from 9am to noon.  Meet at
the Scioto Boat Club on the west side of the river.  Long pants and
closed-toe shoes are recommended.

June 24:  Central Ohio Section Golf Outing at Darby Creek Golf Course.
Please consider participating in this fun event which helps support our

Summer:  Columbus Clippers baseball game.  More details to come.

 

If anyone is interested in being an officer next year or getting more
involved in our ASCE YM group, please let me know.

 

Finally, for anyone interested in meeting other young professionals or
getting more involved in local events, take a look at the CYP Club
(Columbus Young Professionals Club) at www.cypclub.com

They hold many social, recreational and community events throughout the
year.  The CYP CLUB has grown to become - by far - the largest YP
organization in Columbus, the largest in Ohio, and about the third
largest in the entire United States.
