Younger Members:

If you have not joined the Order of the Engineer I would encourage you to do so. There is an opportunity to take the pledge on May 17, 2010 on the OSU campus, see information below.

Sincerely,

Bob Heady
ASCE Central Ohio Section
Younger Member, President

The Order of the Engineer is an organization created to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/. The Order is not a membership organization; there are never any meetings to attend or dues to pay.
Instead, the Order fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one's pledge lifelong to "Upholding Devotion to the Standards and Dignity of the Engineering profession."  Members accepting the obligation often wear a stainless steel ring on the small finger of their working hand.

If you hold a degree in engineering, I would like to formally invite you to join Order of the Engineer by attending this year's ceremony. At the ceremony you will receive a stainless steel ring and an Obligation Certificate. The ring is to be worn on the outside finger of your dominant hand so it hits the table you are writing on to remind you to maintain the standards of engineering. There is a one-time fee associated with the ceremony and lifetime membership in the Order of the Engineer of $12.

The ceremony this year will be held in Scott E100 on May 17, 2009. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM and will take less than an hour. There will be a small reception after the ceremony.

If you are interested in participating, fill out the attached sign up form.
Place the sign up form and your $12 payment (cash or check) in a sealed envelope and bring it to Hitchcock 244. There will be ring sizers available in Hitchcock 244 when you turn in the form. Forms will be collected on April
26 through April 30 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you have any questions about the Order, please see their website, http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at OrderOfTheEngineerOSU at gmail.com <mailto:OrderOfTheEngineerOSU at gmail.com>.
