Columbus, Ohio 43229 Speakers: Jim Siebert, PE ? Sr. Vice President, DLZ Ohio, Inc. Jeff Coffey, PE ? Public Works Department Manager, DLZ Ohio, Inc. Topic: OARS Tunneled Sewer Project Planned for completion in 2015, the OSIS Augmentation and Relief Sewer (OARS) will be the single largest CSO mitigation project undertaken by the City of Columbus. The OARS project will consist of the construction of a 20-foot diameter, deep tunnel wastewater conduit that will provide relief to the existing Olentangy Scioto Interceptor Sewer (OSIS) from just north of the Arena District to the Jackson Pike WWTP. The tunnel will be approximately 4.5 miles long and will be constructed in bedrock at a depth of 170 feet. Three OSIS Relief Structures and three overflow connector sewers will be constructed to divert wet weather combined sewage flow to the OARS tunnel. Special drop shafts, up to 48 feet in diameter, will direct flow from the relief and connector structures to the OARS tunnel. The OARS tunnel will end at the proposed OARS Diversion Structure just north of the Jackson Pike WWTP. This diversion structure, which will be 52 feet in diameter and over 200 feet deep, will directly flow to the WWTP, to a possible future High Rate Treatment Plant, and/or to an outfall at the Scioto River. A pump station facility will be utilized to dewater the tunnel and to direct flow to the WWTP. A tunnel screening structure system will be provided upstream of the Diversion Structure and pumps. The presentation will give an overview of this challenging project.
