Hurricane Katrina Lessons Webinar

Date & Time:
Fri, 09/14/2007 - 12:00pm - 1:30pm
Location:
Ohio University, Athens Ohio, & WD Partners, 7007 Discovery Boulevard, Dublin, Ohio

ASCE has developed for its members a web-based seminar (a Webinar) to help learn the critical lessons that can be read from the Hurricane Katrina disaster of 2005. This webinar is being offered at no cost to members of the Central Ohio Section. It will be presented on Friday, September 14 from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm at two locations for Central Ohio ASCE members. The first location is at the offices of WD Partners at 7007 Discovery Boulevard in Dublin, Ohio. The location is just northeast of the Rt. 33 interchange at Avery-Muirfield Drive. The second location is at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in the Grover Center, room W115.

Grover Center is building 89 on the map at coordinates F5. A parking
garage is nearby attached to Baker Center (building 87) which can only
be accessed from Oxbow Trail (shown on the map).

Lunch and drinks are bring-your-own at the Columbus location; there are several restaurants near the Rt. 33 interchange. Unfortunately food is not allowed in the room at the Ohio University location.

The webinar is based on research of the Corps of Engineer’s Interagency Performance Evaluation Task Force and ASCE’s External Review Panel, and addresses the organizational, managerial, and funding considerations that can stand between the engineer and his responsibility to safeguard the public health, safety, and welfare. It will help engineers working on large projects and with government agencies serving Hurricane-prone coastal communities; population centers in high risk locations; and regions protected by levee systems. Former Brigadier General of the COE Gerald E. Galloway will present the webinar. He is now a professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland, and was the leader of the White House study of the 1993 Mississippi River floods. It will be a great learning experience for engineers from the newly minted to long experienced.

There is no charge for this webinar; it is presented free by your ASCE national and Central Ohio Section, and the site is being provided by WD Partners. 1.5 hours of CPD credits will be offered for this program. Attendance space is limited to 100, on a first come basis.

Please make reservations for the Columbus location by contacting Stephanie Cooper, (614) 634-7418, stephanie.cooper@wdpartners.com .
