Special Lecture - Notable Bridges in Ohio, David W. Jones

Over his 33 years of designing bridges, David W. Jones has designed or managed well over 200 civil and transportation projects. This experience has allowed Mr. Jones to develop a unique design philosophy of contextual design.

Notable Ohio bridges using this philosophy include:

  • Lane Avenue Bridge
  • Woody Hayes Drive Bridge
  • Third Avenue Bridge
  • Broadmeadows Bridge over the Olentangy River
  • Beach Road Bridge over Little Darby Creek
  • Lithopolis Winchester Road over Little Walnut Creek

This lecture will look at several of these bridges and explain the factors that influence the design of these bridges.

Jones-Stuckey is a 31-person Civil/Structural Engineering firm practicing in the State of Ohio. Currently as President, Mr. Jones directs the staff of engineers and technicians in the design and construction of bridges, highways and civil engineering projects. Mr. Jones has been with Jones-Stuckey for 28 years.

Mr. Jones graduated from Ohio State in 1979. Throughout his career, Mr. Jones has developed a philosophy which combines aesthetics with good bridge design. His projects have won numerous design awards, including the Lane Avenue Bridge, Woody Hayes Drive Bridges, Third Avenue Bridge, Broadmeadows Connector Bridge, City of Columbus; and several bridges along the Alum Creek Multi-use Trail, Cities of Columbus and Westerville. Mr. Jones is recipient of the 2007 American Society of Highway Engineers, National President’s Award, the 2002 American Society of Highway Engineers, Central Ohio “Meritorious Service Award”, the 2001 Ohio State University, College of Engineering, “Meritorious Alumni Award, and the 2000 Recipient of the American Society of Highway Engineers, “Outstanding MemberAward.”
