Career Day 2012

On April 25, 2012, the Central Ohio Section of ASCE once again sponsored a Civil Engineering Career Day. A total of 22 students attended representing 5 Central Ohio area High Schools. The morning began with a tour of the completed Lane Avenue Bridge and under construction Dodridge Street Bridge. The tour was given by Jim Pajk and Mike Bashore with Franklin County Engineers Office. We then took the students to the OSU Olentangy River Wetland Park where we were given an impromptu talk from Dr. Mitsch. Lunch was held at the OSU/Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center that is LEED Certified. At lunch, Dr. Merry (OSU Civil Dept. Chair) and Dr. Masada (OU Asst. Civil Dept. Chair) both gave overviews of the Civil Engineering programs at their respective colleges. The afternoon included a tour of the new downtown Hilton Convention Center Hotel. Turner representative Tyler Slane gave an interesting interactive tour that ended with a question and answer session and some great prizes for the students.
