May President's Letter

I wanted to start off by thanking the Ohio State University and the Ohio University ASCE student chapters for planning and presenting at the April dinner meeting at the Ohio Student Union. It was nice to hear that both student chapters participate in civil engineering activities throughout the year and receive support from the faculty and professional advisors. I also wanted to thank Nigel Carter from Turner Construction for providing insight on one of the largest projects in the country by discussing the many complexities of the OSU Medical Center Expansion Project including the pivotal role of the construction manager. When completed, the new OSU Medical Center will be a living, working model of P4 Medicine and personalized health care, transformative concepts in modern healthcare practice and delivery.

Please join us for the last luncheon of the year on Thursday May 17th where our special guest speaker will be ASCE National President-Elect Gregory DiLoreto, P.E., P.L.S., F.ASCE who will discuss the state of the society and his three strategic initiatives – Sustainability, Infrastructure and Raise the Bar. A certificate for one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) will be issued at the conclusion of the program.

In addition to our guest speaker will be recognizing those individuals for the outstanding civil engineer, outstanding ASCE Central Ohio section member and life members award recipients. Those who have served ASCE throughout their career and will be recognized as a life member will include Delbert Boring, Kenneth Davis, Mark Greenwood, Stanley Johnson, Paul Junk, Thomas Kinsel, Richard Paddock, Divaker Pathak, Gregory Shekas, Henry Stonerook and Robert Williams. Also at the luncheon ASCE would like to present a certificate of recognition to S&ME, Inc. for encouragement and exemplary support of young member involvement in ASCE activities.

With this being the last luncheon of our event calendar and the last newsletter of the year, I wanted to express to all of you that it has been an honor to serve the past year as the president and the last four years as a board member. Thank you to those that have helped in planning the events, provided continuing education opportunities and have given back to the civil engineering profession.

Thank you,
Mike Mazzoli
