February President's Letter

In January, ASCE and SEAoO provided an interactive presentation by Mr. Bill Lantz, P.E. from Shelley, Metz, Baumann Hawk, Inc. of a case study which documented the caisson foundation and structural failure of a medical facility. The presentation discussed missteps, remediation and solutions that were taken by the entire design and construction team during the construction and remediation stages. I wanted to thank Mr. Lantz for providing the group with this very insightful presentation which I hope we can all take the lesson learned and prevent this from happening on future projects.

In February, the E-Week committee has planned a lunch event that will highlight the accomplishments of NASA and how their inventions have affected the average American life. The event will be held at the Bridgewater Conference Center located on Sawmill Road and will be presented by Mr. Brian Palaszewski from the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. A certificate for one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) will be issued at the conclusion of the program.

The time of year has come where we are currently looking for those individuals that would like to give back to ASCE and the engineering profession. We will be holding nominations for positions on the Central Ohio ASCE Board. Typically we look for an individual that would like to become an active board member in the spring where we will hold nominations for any open position on the board. If you or anyone you know would have interest in this please have them contact myself or any board member so that we can add their name to the spring nomination ballot.

Also please check out our website where we have added links to those companies who have paid sponsorships for employment listings.
