January President's Letter

I hope that everyone had an outstanding holiday season and are now ready as I am looking forward to the exciting upcoming ASCE events over the next six months, including dinner meetings for the months of January and April, lunch meetings for February, March and May and concluding with the June golf outing.

I wanted to thank Dane Redinger, P.E., President of the Central Ohio ACI section, for his group’s effort planning the December dinner meeting that was held at the Arlington Café. The presentation discussed the replacement of the I-71 Jeremiah Morrow Bridge project that is being built by Kokosing Construction and designed by HNTB Cleveland. Both Ryan Cocco of Kokosing Construction and Murat Aydemir, P.E., S.E. of HNTB did an excellent job explaining the design and current construction sequence and gave us an in depth view of the scale and complexity of this massive project in Southern Ohio.

Be sure to attend our next event on January 12, 2012 which will be discussing a caisson failure case study. The presentation will be given by Mr. Bill Lantz, P.E. of Shelly Metz Baumann Hawk, Inc. which will discuss the failure of the caisson foundation system that caused approximately 6 inches of settlement and significant building damage. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer session that will hopefully help prevent these problems occurring on future projects. A certificate for one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) will be issued at the conclusion of the program.

Happy New Year!
